The Moooh-dy Livestock

Shifting cattle is never easy. Especially if you don't have a race and no proper cattle dogs! We shifted the beefies meanwhile twice. Every time there is trouble. And every time the same special beast is the trouble maker. A beefie which looks like a white faced Hereford. They are all Hereford cross but some of them look more like the Hereford side and the others are more towards the Angus. Can you spot the trouble-maker in the picture?

We learned early in our farming adventures that there are trouble makers in a herd of cattle or group of sheep. As dumb as they sometimes are, they are clever enough to cause trouble. It amazes me that cattle never get used to the idea that most of the time when those two-legged animals called humans show up on their paddock that it means they go to a new fresh green lush paddock. But you can take any bet that the trouble makers remember that every time these two-legged ones show up we'll have some fun running around.

The other recent addition is a flock of 20 Suffolk sheep. Lilo bought them via TradeMe and they were delivered last Friday. The had a rough ride because someone must have shat on them. No better words to describe it, it was a shitty ride. I am glad we got some good rain and they are nice and clean now.

We had a good although very wet Queens Birthday weekend. We had our new friends here for dinner and it was a great evening.Sunday I emptied the room for the new licensed kitchen and removed the skirting boards. On Wednesday the carpet layers will come and lay down some commercial vinyl. I had to dig the trenches a bit deeper because the plumber was here and checked them. Requirement is a minimum of 50cm, I had only 20 - 30 cm. So more digging which was really hard because this time I hit clay. Yucky sticky heave clay. But it is done now and everything is prepared for the next step. If you don't know what I am talking about check our business home page at CottageCrafts.co.nz.

A long weekend comes to its end. I can smell dinner already and I'll have a nice bottle of Green Man Best Bitter with it.
