People like you and me
Talking to someone at NZFSA today about Raw Milk made me realize that we often forget we deal with people like you and me. The person was very friendly and helpful. They just think in different terms like me. When he started like "All these regulations don't make raw milk any more safe" I thought "Well that's interesting, he thinks in terms of raw milk = dangerous, I think in terms of raw milk = healthy". It is their job to think like this. And they do their job well.
They are not out there to harm us or make life hell for us. That's the job of the other people called politicians and government. Just kidding.
It is the same for people working for the department of Conservation (DOC). How hard must this be. I met many of them doing a great job, are fun people and have a healthy brain which they use in a good way. But how hard must it be? I met at least the equal amount of people who think everybody in a DOC uniform should be put against a wall and shot (Original voice from a Kiwi Bloke/Farmer). I know there are many wrong things DOC does. But they are wrong in our eyes. We just think different.
When I was talking about my dentist visit the other day on facebook a friend said "There are no nice dentists. Same as there are no nice lawyers". My dentist really is nice. I know her a bit in private too. And she has a great job. And she loves her job. And she does a lot of good. Only because it is painful for me she isn't a bad sadistic person.
As long as we don't forget we are dealing with people like you and me we should be fine.

I dealt with one of the NZFSA people the other day as well and was seriously impressed. Friendly, gave me all the information I needed and really prompt. Great to have people out there like that!
