Last weekend

It was the last one of my holidays. I was really really working hard on staying positive. And I managed ok. No "Back to work Blues" so far. I decided to take work not as serious anymore. Seriously! Live is way more important than work. Anyway ...

Saturday we went to the Kaikohe A&P show. If I would have one advice for the organisers: The invention of signs, specifically road signs was a huge leap forwards in making people find places like i.e. A&P Show grounds. If you know what I mean.

Apart from that, a nice little A&P show but nothing to write home about. The one thing which stood out was the friendliness of the people who helped with parking and the ticket sales.

Highlights: The Rare Breeds stall and meeting Inger and Grant from the Rare Breeds Conservation Society of New Zealand (I know them from the  Lifestyleblock Forum). It was great to talk to you guys and also to meet Grant in person and not only online.

Lowlights: No cattle. Seriously people, an A&P show with no cattle? There was one breeder of highland cattle. That was it. So all we could see were sheep and the rare breeds people who had a great range of animals on show.

In the evening we saw Tobby and Doug to look at some ex-Dairy cows they are milking for their neighbor. Some of them had very bad excema and should be put down. We are interested to buy a Jersey cow and a Frisian with a calf.

Sunday was a busy day. After the milking and breakfast we drove out to Awanui to look at some weaner calves. Lilo bought the whole lot of 10 calves. I must say they are nice animals and they went for a good price. We then visited our French friend Francois. The calf we had while he was away is not well. So we dropped of a single calfeteria and a bale of hay as well as some calf starter. If you see Francis you need time. So we spent a good two hours having a beer and enjoying Francois' and Marcia's company. This guy should write a book about his life. The things he experienced are just amazing. I don't know what it is with some people. Their life just goes on and on like a movie. He is a character including his chook Blanche who has free access to the house. He just adores his animals.
We then went home and I cleaned the barbeque just in time for Tobby and Doug arriving with their grandchildren Chantal and Courtney. We had a great dinner with huge greenlip mussles and two Crayfish they brought. Also some sausages (Doug is a butcher by trade) and we added some steaks and vegetables,  beans and potatoes (from Francois' garden). The girls (Lilo and the two children) went and saw the goats. Courtney wants to come back on Saturday and milk a goat by hand.

Ah yes, dinner was finished with Plum Ice Cream I made during the day. It got a thumbs up from the girls which made me proud!
