Bl*** cow
The day started a bit with a rodeo. One of the heifers is absolutely not happy to get milked. So sorry girl, but that means you are moving in a big truck. She will have to go.We can’t be bothered with bitchy cows anymore. Especially since Mrs. L. is milking all by herself Saturdays while I am at the market.
Gina our new puppy is getting really good. She already lets us know when she has to go outside. Well most of the times. She seems to be a clever dog. Today she was sleeping in all sort of funny positions.
It was another busy day. Cheese making, then packing the orders for Cottage Crafts, refreshing the water kefir and sending some of the culture to facebook friends. Then I went to town and just made it for the 3:30 courier. The ladies at the Kaitaia Post office are wonderful. It is always a laugh there and Kathleen was rushing out to make sure the courier will take my parcels with her. I promised them to bake some Christmas goodies for them. Then I picked up my delivery for the bakery at my friend’s cafe, went shopping and rushed home. I started a baking experiment based on an article I read. Don’t want to say too much. There isn’t a recipe so I have to follow the little information about an old baking tradition from the article. I am sure I will tell more later. If not the experiment failed.
Then I made diner and now writing the blog with a glass of Sauvignion Blanc.
Cheese Making
Made some Gouda today. 8 litres of milk filled two of the nice 500gram moulds. I used them for the first time.
Dinner tonight
Rabbit stew on a bed of vegetables with fried potatoes. I shot a rabbit two days ago. It was a nice big one. I hat wasting a life so I combine pest control with healthy nutrition. Rabbit is actually a very healthy lean meat. I prepared a soffritto and braised the rabbit with it. Reduced some stock and a second reduction with red wine. Removed the rabbit from the pot, added carrot, pumpkin, beet root, mixed mushrooms, sweet potatoes and tomatoes from a tin. All went it not he oven for 90 minutes (I was on the phone to Bruce, see below) at 200 deg C. Yumm.
Happy thoughts
It feels nice to walk behind cows. They radiate this calmness. I love to bring them back to their paddock, listen to the birds, cow walking slowly ahead of me.
On mornings like today nature smells nice. All this moisture in the air gives it a spicy smell. Birds are singing.
Word of the day
I spoke to a very wonderful person today on the phone. He is a customer of mine and was talking to Lilo some days ago. He asked me to call him back and I thought he needed some more cheese making equipment or something. Shows that he only wanted to meet me on the phone and have a yarn. We found so many similarities. It was such a wonderful conversation. I can’t explain it. I know we haven’t spoken for the last time. I hope we will meet in person one day. So thanks to Bruce the word of the day is:
resonance.
